About the Artist

Aloha!
"Art washes away, from the soul, the dust of everyday life".... Pablo Picasso
Laurie McKeon's interest in the arts started at the age of 10 when she began private lessons in oil painting. In her early 20's, Laurie satisfied her creativity in another way: by sailing around the islands of the South Pacific in a small yacht. She eventually landed on the island of Tahiti where she lived for a year in an isolated 'fare' on the edge of a pristine, tropical lagoon. She credits this experience for her determination to live close to nature and the sea.
After a successful career as an artist representative in Ojai, California, McKeon found her way 'home again' and moved back to the tropics, this time to Honolulu, Hawaii on the island of Oahu. Here, she began to paint in earnest.
"Hawaii is filled with inspiration. The fragrance of plumeria, the chirping of tropical birds, the visual and cultural connection to the ocean... these things all remind me of some of the happiest times in my life, living in French Polynesia. As a result, all things tropical weave their way into my work."
Regardless of the subject matter she's exploring, Laurie’s goal remains always: "to share the endless beauty I discover in Hawaii, offering to others a resting place for the soul."
